Domain Names

Where can I purchase domain names from?
We recommend that you use www.123reg.co.uk, the basic account is free to set up and we have a
working relationship with them, however there are plenty of other domain providers on the Internet.
2. How much is a domain name?
  Best check with your providers, but typically .co.uk domains are around £6.00 for 2 years and .com's are approximately £20.00 for 2 years.
3. Can I transfer my domain name to 123reg.co.uk?
  Yes you can using the control panel that is part of your 123reg account.
If you are using our hosting, we would be more than happy to help you with the transfer.
4. Is it a problem if my domain name is held with my current provider?
  Not a problem at all as far as we are concerned, but your provider may place restrictions on your
web hosting choice.
5. I'm having problems with my Domain Name, can you help?
  If it is in relation to our hosting, then we would be more than happy to help.
6. What is the root path to my hosting account?

Web Hosting  
1. What is web hosting?
  Web hosting is a computer where you web site is held, this can be any where in the world.
2. Your web hosting seems expensive compared to others I have seen?
  Our hosting is highly reliable and our servers are not saturated with resellers web sites.
3. Why should I use your hosting and what type do you use?
  You get what you pay for, the up time of our servers in second to none, we offer high reliability through the use of Apache Linux servers, a rock solid platform used by many high profile company's.
4. I use an exchange sever, can I still use your hosting?
  Our hosting control panel gives you the option using DNS to forward to any exchange email server.
5. Can I check my emails online using a browser similar to hotmail?
  All hosting and email packages come with squirrel mail, a type of web based mail similar to hotmail.
6. Is there a bandwidth restriction on the hosting?
  The is no bandwidth restriction on our gold package, but there is on the silver (10Gig) and bronze (6Gig) packages, however 99% of users do not to exceed 2 Gig anyway, so for most people/ company's this
will not be an issue.
7. Is there a way I can check my web statistics?
  All hosting accounts come with a full web statistics package.
8. Can I retrieve files that I have accidentally deleted on the server?
  We back up on a daily basis and deleted files can usually be retrieved for a fee.
9. Do you have to design my site, to use your hosting?
  You can have you site upload to our website without us having to design it.
10. I am a current customer, what server ftp address should I use?
  The server address are ftp.pleiadeanmedia.com or 62.105.77.37 for file transfer and
mail.pleiadeanmedia.com or 62.105.77.36 for pop email.

  Depends on what you want, but typically from £100.00 for a single page site.

What do I need for you to make me a web site ?
  An idea of what you want and all the images and text, (ideally in word format), that is it.
3. Can you design a site that will be hosted with my existing providers?
  Yes we can, but we would recommend our own hosting services, as of course we know how they work.
4. Can I have some input in to how my web site looks?
  You give us an idea on what you want and we will design the site for you.

Networks  
1. What are the advantages of having a network installed?
  Easy links between computers, printers and cameras, also telephone systems can be used on them,
making relocation of handsets a breeze.
2. Do I have to run a business to have a network installed?
  Not nowadays, cat5 networks are almost a standard service fitted in to modern houses.
3. What is the best connection method, modem or router?
  Depends on what you are doing, but we would always recommend a router.
4. Do I need a firewall?
  Most computers come with some sort of software firewall, but if you have confidential documents on you machines, then we would recommend a hardware firewall.
5. What is remote connection?
  A way of being in front of your computer whilst being remote to that location.
6. Can my offices share the same server?
  By using Remote Desktop Connection, Terminal Services or setting up a Virtual Private Network, it is
possible to share files from a remote location.

Broadband  
1. What's the difference between your broadband and others advertised on the internet?
 

Our broadband uses a superior technology called IP Stream, whilst almost all the other broadband
packages you will have seen use Data Stream, this is not as reliable.

2. What type's of broadband do you provide?
  We supply IP Stream broadband and can provide ADSL and SDSL types.
3. What is a static IP address and do I get one?
  A static internet IP address is a unique identifier that always says the same, like a house number.
4. Is there a bandwidth restriction?
  We advertise the bandwidth as unlimited, but there is a fair usage policy to keep the system stable.
6. How many computers/ media centers can use the broadband at the same time?
  As many as you like really, obviously the faster an account the less the broadband is shared.
5. How long does it take to set an broadband account?
  Usually 7 days, depending on the BT telecom network.
7. Can I cancel my broadband account with you?
  As we deal with business, not all of them want to sign for 12 months or more, we have a three month
before cancellation policy.
8. When I am away from home, how can I dial up to the Internet using my laptop?
  You can use a dial up modem, use the following settings;

Web Cameras  
1. What is an IP web camera?
  An electronic camera with a built in web server which connects directly to a cat5 computer network and provides way of placing images from a remote location using ADSL to a website or remote computer.

  Basically the same as an IP camera, but without the camera it self, enabling you to choose your own
optics and sensor board.
3. How can I check on events using my web camera?
  Either by FTP, email or using a web browser such as Internet explorer.
4. Can I have one or more set up at my home or work?
  If you have a network and a broadband account, you can within reason have as many as you like.
5. How much do they cost?
  Prices for IP cameras start at about £100.00 depend on specification.
6. Are web cameras secure?
  IP cameras come with a login screen which is customisable to your own passwords.
